The Trans Health Collective was formed in 2024 by a group of trans folks already engaged in active mutual aid within our communities. We know how important HRT is for trans people's mental and physical health, and we know the grave danger that is posed by restricted access to those medications. In the face of ongoing and worsening systemic attacks against the transgender community in the United States and elsewhere, we felt it was time to establish more formal mutual aid programs to protect ourselves. Together, we are strong.
FAQ
Where are the medications sourced?
We use a variety of sources to supply HRT, including but not limited to:
- Surplus donations: trans people who are overprescribed one or more medications can donate their surplus meds to the collective. If you have a surplus to donate, please contact us.
- Pharmaceutical suppliers: many medications (specifically non-controlled substances) can be purchased above-board from legally operating pharmaceutical vendors based overseas, in countries like India or Turkiye.
- Reputable homebrewers: we only order from homebrewers that are widely vouched for, and we never distribute anything from a clandestine source until after we've tried their products on ourselves first. Additionally, some homebrewers order third-party testing on their products, and others are tested independently by organizations like Trans Harm Reduction.
Can you ship medication to me?
Yes, we can ship anywhere in the US, and we may be able to supply some folks internationally on a case-by-case basis.
How can I acquire syringes and needles?
We are looking to start distributing "injection kits" of needles, syringes, alcohol wipes, and band-aids. In the meantime, though, syringes and needles can be sold over-the-counter in most of the US, though the exact restrictions and regulations vary state-by-state. Some require a prescription, others limit quantity or require ID to purchase, and others still allow sales with no or minimial restrictions. There are also several reputable online suppliers for needles and syringes. Here are a couple we've had success with:
Do you distribute hormones for free?
We operate by a pay-what-you-can model. Our ability to supply discounted or free medication is limited by the donations we receive.
Do you collect a profit from this venture?
No, and we never will. Our goal is to come as close as we can to breaking even, so we can continue to provide this service.
